The Granada Hotel, which opened in 1927, closed at noon to be converted into a home for the elderly.  Monthly rent began at $58 per month.

October 22 in San Antonio history...

The World Football League, including the San Antonio Wings, folds.  San Antonio would not have another professional football team again until 1984 - the San Antonio Gunslingers of the USFL.

The Spurs make their debut as an NBA team in Philadephia against the 76ers, appropriately.  They continue their high-scoring ABA tradition, winning 121-118.

October 16 in San Antonio history...

Merger of Austin College at Sherman and Trinity University, located at Waxahachie, received the approval of delegates to the state-wide synod of the Presbyterian Church now meeting at the Madison Square Presbyterian Church here.  Three more resolutions pertaining to the merger will be discussed Thursday, the Rev. R. E. Joiner, said.
