November 1 in San Antonio history...

1941
Parachutist George Hopkins, a native San Antonian, jumped from a plane and landed on the top of Devil's Tower National Monument in Wyoming today.  However, his plan for getting down from the mountain went awry and he had to wait six days in freezing temperatures for rescuers to climb up to him with rappelling equipment.
