1922
James E. Ferguson, former Texas governor and now U.S. senatorial candidate, is scheduled to be a San Antonio visitor today.

1942
A petition bearing 100 signatures and demanding the sale of beer be prohibited on Sunday was presented to the City Council.

1962
The mercury passed the 100 degree mark for the 14th consecutive day, surpassing a 32-year old record.
[The streak continued until August 13, 1962 - 21 consecutive days, which is still the record as of 2011.]
