August 11 in San Antonio history...


1909
A meeting of the German-American citizens will be held at Beethoven Hall Aug. 19 to organize a branch of the German-American Alliance of the United States of America.



1919
A minimum wage of $2.50 a day for laborers and $5 a day for teamsters with teams will be inaugurated by the city when the budget is adopted.  This will be an increase of 50 cents for the laborers and $1 for the teamsters.

1939
Bexar County Commissioners Court in a special resolution passed this morning, censured the city of San Antonio for its "ill-advised" granting of a permit for a Communist Party meeting in the Municipal Auditorium.

1959
The city's housing and inspection department issued a permit for construction of a $1,040,000 motor hotel to be situated at Loop 13, San Pedro and Isom Road.  It will be known as Ramada Inn Roadside Motel.
