July 31 in San Antonio history...

1903
The East End Bakery advertised in The Light that the "best bread in the city" could be purchased at its three stores at two loaves for five cents.

1908
James "Doc" Williams was hanged in the Bexar County jail this morning for the murder of Thomas J. Turner.  Before the execution, Father Waring mounted the scaffold and delivered a rebuke to those who had come to see the hanging out of morbid curiosity.

1948
Contributions totaling $700 have been made for the development of a park north of Dahiel, near the old Dodd Field permanent party mess hall.  The park will serve 500 miltary personnel and dependents.
