July 26 in San Antonio history...

1893
Telephone station operators sponsored a "hello dance" at Riverside Park.  A basket lunch was a feature of the outing.

1903
Several hundred persons attended the first annual joint picnic of the two locals of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen at San Pedro Springs Park.

1953
Eight engine test cells with 18-inch concrete walls, capable of calibrating performances of 5,000 h.p. turbo-prop aircraft power plants are under construction at Kelly AFB.


1975
The San Antonio Wings of the World Football League play their home opener at Alamo Stadium against the Charlotte Hornets in front of 12,325 fans.  The Wings win, 27-10.  However, the WFL folds in October.
