June 17 in San Antonio history...


1919
The Victory Arch, erected on Alamo Plaza as a part of the welcoming home of San Antonio soldiers and under which two parades of overseas men have marched, has been taken down. No more large units of men are slated to arrive.

1929
Fire and Police Commissioner Phil Wright warned motorist the new state highway speed limit of 45 mph does not apply inside the city limits.  The city speed limit, as before, will be 20 mph.


1976
The San Antonio Spurs become members of the National Basketball Association.
