1895
Mayoral candidate Bryan Callaghan ordered a boycott of The Light newspaper for its attacks on him.

1905
The State Legislature passed a bill to purchase the Alamo as an historic shrine for $65,000.

1980
The long anticipated opening of southbound lanes of McAllister Freeway (U.S. 281) between Bitters and Sandau roads near International Airport came after clear weather allowed completion of major construction on the traffic lanes.
