January 21 in San Antonio history...

1900
Fire Chief Will G. Tobbs has presented the young son of Mrs. L. Sichel, who with his mother, was thrown out of a buggy in a collision with the chief's buggy on Commerce Street, a handsome silver cup suitably engraved as a souvenir of his escape.

1940
Substandard housing, barred from the city by increasingly strict building regulations, is finding a lush field for growth just outside San Antonio's western limits.

1970
At least 40 babies have been born addicted to heroin at the Robert B. Green Hospital over past months.  All babies born to mothers on heroin are born addicts.
