January 14 in San Antonio history...

San Antonio's Spanish Acres high school, recently named Thomas Jefferson, will not be ready for occupancy by the opening of the fall school term in September. Plans call for completion in October.

The number of murders committed in San Antonio during 1940 was 40 percent less than in 1939. There were 32 murders in 1939 and 17 in 1940.

The City Council opened its $38,000 miniature council chamber today. Most observers were not overly impressed with what they saw.
