December 9 in San Antonio history...

1890
The street car company was disposing of its large number of mules at a rapid pace. Sixty-four of the animals had been sold already for $45 each.

1930
The Southern Pacific office in Boerne was badly damaged when thieves used explosives to blow open a safe. They escaped with about $45 in cash.

1980
Shocked by the murder of John Lennon, San Antonians listened to tributes to the former Beatle on radio stations KONO, KTSA and KTFM. San Antonio record stores quickly sold out of his latest LP, "Double Fantasy."
