October 9 in San Antonio history...

Prohibition agents destroyed 526 bottles of bootleg beer a few doors away from Riverside Baptist Church.

So mysterious is this great new invention, radio, that many people actually believe it is possible to operate a radio without batteries or eliminators, and that all the power can be furnished by the light socket.

San Antonians interested in politics went to the Alamo to hear Vice-President Richard M. Nixon speak. Sports fans were too busy talking about Don Larsen's perfect game in the World Series the night before.
