1899
The old Madre ditch in the eastern part of the city which was used for irrigation purposes in former years is being put into condition again

1942
Alamo Plaza was filled with spectators Thursday night for the unveiling of San Antonio's war chest thermometer, erected this week against the cenotaph and facing the post office.

1959
The first big break in San Antonio's labor strike was announced today after sheet metal workers were granted a 37 1/2 cent increase over the next three years.
