October 16 in San Antonio history...

1899
Today's session of the city council was one of the most harmonious ever held. There was to have been a short fight but it was postponed.

1919
The Alamo will be re-roofed it was decided today at a meeting of the Alamo Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, but nothing was decided as to when the necessary funds would be raised.

1929
The City Central Bank today will join the ranks of the very few buildings in San Antonio which are equipped with new dial telephones. By 1931, the entire city is expected to be using dial phones.
