September 5 in San Antonio history...

1901
A movement to endow the Alamo with a fund sufficient to renovate the neglected building and purchase the grounds surrounding it through an endless chain contribution of 50 cents from every patriotic Texas is being discussed.

1927
In observation of Labor Day, 2,000 members of organized labor, comprising the largest labor parade ever seen here, marched through the business section of the city at 9:30 this morning.

1935
Plans to open the cornerstone of the old post office prior to the erection of a new building were labeled indefinite when the cornerstone was discovered to be missing.
