September 17 in San Antonio history...

1905
Foul play was suspected when the engine of the eastbound "Davy Crockett" train jumped the track near the fair grounds.

1917
Beginning today, traffic policemen stationed on all important street crossings in the downtown district will cease to control traffic by means of their hands and arms. Instead the new signal devices will be in operation.

1926
San Antonio's new traffic artery, chisled out of the heart of the downtown area - the Market St. extension from Alamo to Rusk - is virtually completed.
