September 1 in San Antonio history...

Work on restoring the Alamo property as nearly as possible to its original condition will be started Sept. 10.

An ordinance creating the position of city property clerk at a salary of $1,800 a year and carrying with it the appointment of George Huntress Jr. will be introduced in City Council this week.

Texas, rich in natural resources, had gone 125 years without a sales tax, but finally joined 36 sister states that have had the levy for up to 20 years or more.
