June 5 in San Antonio history...

1926
Insterstate Amusement Company has purchased property on Houston between St. Mary's and Navarro and intends to build the largest theater in the South. (This would be the Majestic Theater.)

1942
Joske's installs the first escalators in San Antonio and begins their "Joske Days" sale two days late in order to showcase them.

1966
A dead man, Tomas B. Perez, won a race for committeeman in Precinct 175. Perez was killed in an auto accident two days ago. His place will be filled by his opponent, Frank Pozos.

1969
The University of Texas at San Antonio was established on this date.
